A antique Victorian ironstone loving cup planted in Imari pattern and colours planted with Muscari flowers. Unmarked but probably late Victorian. Has been well-loved and one handle has damaged which has not been rather amateurishly fixed. This is reflected in the price. PLanted with Muscari 'Blue Eyes' which flower for ages, have a lovely subtle scent and can be replanted outside in the agrden for next year.
A loving cup is a double-handled mug commonly used at weddings to celebrate the happy couple’s union and to symbolise the pledge they have made to one another. They are also frequently used at livery companies and City of London banquets as a toast to friendship and fraternity. They were particularly popular during the Victorian times for their sentimental and commemorative value.
