A grand old dame of an ironstone footed bowl - judging by the pattern I would suggest Gaudy Welsh. It's a really lovely piece - big, solid, folksy - but it does have a few chips and cracks commensuate with age, but frankly nothing that detracts, if anything it's part of its charm and I have tried to show that this is not a perfect piece.
"Gaudy Welsh pottery" is a brightly coloured, heavily decorated type of earthenware that originated in Wales and was produced primarily between 1820 and the 1890s, with a revival between the 1930-50s. Inspired by Imari ware, it features underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze enamels in vibrant colours such as red, green, and yellow, often accented with pink lustre (which can appear copper over cobalt blue). While some pieces include gold or silver gilding, these are not considered part of the traditional Gaudy Welsh palette.
Despite its Welsh name, most Gaudy Welsh pottery was actually made in England for export to the American market. It is known for its bold, hand-painted floral designs and a heavier body.
Our footed bowl has been generously planted up with miniature 'Thalia'-like white daffidols it is a lovely addtion to the kitchen table or as a cottage centrepiece - and the bulbs can be planted out in the garden to flower again next season, when they have finished flowering.
