I'm Julia, hello!

I love to bring a sense of continuity and belonging to all my projects and to create beautiful pieces which are both timeless and functional.

Influenced by my artist parents who had a deep love of  gardening and history, I became bewitched by an old crystal bowl filled with bleached coral and paperwhite bulbs many years ago and so began my fascination for the transitional nature of plants in homes, especially those which have been brought in from the garden & greenhouse.

After studying at the University of Cape Town, I worked  in urban regeneration on the initial stages of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.  I moved back to London in the late 80's and continued in urban regeneration with Sheppard Robson Architects.  With a growing passion for historic landscapes,  I studied garden design under John Brooks at RBG Kew and then worked at Elizabeth Banks & Assoc in historical garden restorations, where I assisted Tom Stuart-Smith and Todd Longstaffe-Gowan.

After many years in the corporate world, I launched The English Potted Plant Co. during Lockdown as a small online venture. We soon expanded into a variety of design projects from country gardens to Mayfair street boxes and we hand-planted over 2,000 potted plants!

Since moving to Oxfordshire, we now have a lovely 17th century barn to work from and the space for our growing potted plant range. You are very welcome to visit us here.
