The cyclamen 'Coums' are really magnifiscent this year - glossy, healthy and full of buds!

Hardy cyclamen, Cyclamen coum is a perennial, bearing delicate silver-lined dark green leaves and dainty blooms in shades of white, pink and red, from late winter to early spring. It’s perfect for growing at the base of small shrubs and trees, and naturalising in grass were they will gradually self-sow and naturalise, looking good in your garden for decades.

Cyclamens can also be reliable plants indoors – we keep ours potted up and indoors whilst they are flowering – and they should be kept in a cool place and out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. Too much heat in a sunny window will encourage early dormancy, while growing in light, but cool conditions may see them continue to flower into April. I have mine on west and north-facing window ledges, bringing them out more prominently into the room when wanted but putting them back in between times. Keep checking that the soil remains slightly damp and note that terracotta pots dry up a little bit quicker, as do plants during the winter months when the central heating is on.

Our vintage clay flower pots are all over 60 years old and in good conditions commensurate with their age (no chips or cracks).  The bulbs can be re-planted to flower again next season, the pot re-used and added to your collection. The perfect sustainable way to to have flowers in your home over winter and nothing single-use about any element!
