A fascinating small tureen, including lid, in excellent condition apart from one tiny hairline crack on the lid. This is made by Minton, is bone china and with the crest ' Agitatione Purgatur' depicting a fountain, which is the motto of the Scottish Russell family/Duke of bedford. Our quick research confirms this to be their crest as it shows a fountain, but so far we have not been able to research more. The craze for 'crested china' reached it's peak in the 1880's and so, given its excellent condition and generaly shape, we believe this piece to be from this era.
Planted generously with white muscari which are just in bud. When they flower imminently will flower for weeks with a wonderful subtle scent and can then be planted out into the garden for next season. The tureen remains as a fascinating collectible.
