Antique Doulton Burslem Sorrento Handled Lidded Dish Bowl in good condition apart from some tiny nibbles on outside edge and some gilt wear, both commensurate with age - which is c 1900-1910. Planted jofully with spring bulbs and flowers including Muscari 'Big Smiles', Tete-a-tetes and Myositis - forget-me-nots. The tureen has very pretty gilt edging and an unusual  custom monogrammed lid which looks like it was done at the time of manufacture by the looks of it - possibly for the original owner. This monogram does not appear on other examples of 'Sorrento'.

Along with other Staffordshire potteries, Doulton jumped on the Flow Ware bandwagon and so this bowl is very much of its Late Victorian era. Flow Blue is a particular style of porcelain and white earthenware that originated, some say, by accident, in the 1820s in England. The potters wanted to copy the Chinese, so they developed a salt glaze on earthenware, which gave a very bright white appearance when fired and then used transferware and the extermely sought after cobalt blue gaze to create the patterns.

All our plants are accompanied with detailed care instructions and packed up carefully in compostable recycled boxes packed with straw and shipped with an overnight courier service.  They make lovely sustainable gifts as nothing is single use or thrown away - the bowl can be used for multiple purposes and the  plants can be planted out in the garden at the end of their flowering season. Each pot comes with a personalised gift card and the option of our hand blocked ‘sari’ wrapping paper and vintage velvet ribbon.
