Large, footed, two-handled, ironstone transfer-ware Minton’s bowl, decorated and hand finished in Imari rim and an old hairline on the rim (photos). This Minton 'Lyre' pattern (No. 8667) is a "highly collectible" antique design that was produced over a long period, from the mid-19th century into the early 20th century.  The colours are in the fashionable Imari-style palette of the time and there is a light "flow blue" appearance, where the cobalt blue has a slightly blurred or flowing effect, reminiscent of fashionable Japanese pottery.

Dating from 1889, it is in very good condition with a tiny nibble on the base and an old hairline on the rim (photos). Named "Lyre"of the distinctive shape of the central cobalt blue motif, which is reminiscent of the musical instrument and surrounded by rust or orange-colored flowers on a white body, with a mustard rim.

Minton was a major producer of high-quality ceramics in Stoke-on-Trent, England. The business operated under different names, including Minton & Co. and later Mintons Ltd., from 1793 until it merged with Royal Doulton in 1968. Pieces from the late Victorian period, such as this bowl, bear marks consistent with the "Mintons" trading name used from 1879 onwards.  Antique pieces in this pattern are sought after by collectors due to their fine quality, attractive design, and the company's historical significance.  We always include the provenance of our antiques for valuation purposes.

Planted abundantly with narcissus Tête-à-tête, all our plants are accompanied with detailed care instructions. Our potted plants make memorable gifts and this bowl can be used for multiple purposes (would make an exceptional wine cooler) and the bulbs can be planted outside for next spring. Each pot comes with a personalised gift card and the option of our Cambridge Imprint wrapping paper and vintage velvet ribbon.
