Antique (1910s) Alfred Meakin 'Bleu de Roi' ironstone tureen with a broad cobalt band between two bands of gold. Part of Meakin's Vitro Hotelware line. Alfred Meakin Ltd was set up in 1875 and operated from the Royal Albert, Victoria and Highgate Potteries in Tunstall. The Bleu de Roi dinner ware was presented to King George V and Queen Mary on their 1913 Royal Visit to the pottery and was one of the potteries most popular ranges.
The tureen with lid, is in good used condition for their age, with no chips or cracks or repairs. The gilding is rubbed in places – commensurate with its age and use. Although these pieces are useable for their original purpose, they look gorgeous planted up with bulbs like we have done with these hyacinths.
Our potted plants make lovely sustainable gifts - the tureen can be used for multiple purposes and the plants can be planted out in the garden at the end of their flowering season.
We offer gift wrapping with beautiful Cambridge Imprint paper, a festive bow and personalised gift card. Couriered with Royal Mail Tracked 24 with next day delivery. Carefully packed and shipped to arrive healthy. Full care notes included. If you have any issues on arrival, please contact me — I’m always happy to help.
