Susie Cooper was a household name during and one of the most successful and prolific designers in  UK ceramic industry.  Her career spanned from 1902 to 1995 and covered some of the most recognisable periods of the Twentieth Century. After attending the Burslem School of Art and growing up and living in the home of the Potteries, Staffordshire, Susie was able to work for many pottery firms over the course of her career, which included Wedgwood.   In 1932 was when she formed Susie Cooper Pottery Ltd, where tableware with modern shapes and abstract designs sold very well in England before they became quite popular among middle class homes in America in the 1940s.

The earthenware products which were produced between the 1930s and 1964 included wall masks, art pottery, figures and decorator items. The tableware pattern which were subsequently developed echoed those early designs which were developed at Grays. These include unique floral motifs and geometric designs. The most common Susie Cooper mark found on earthenware is the famous 'leaping deer' which can be found in brown, green, pink, blue or black. The company was acquired by Wedgwood in the 1960s, where manufacturing continued, resulting in some of the most popular Susie Cooper pottery designs, which are still beloved today.

'Persia' is a crisp, mid-century pattern on bright white bone china It is decorated with stripes and a leaf like pattern in olive green with .a  slim silver gilt to the edges of the bowl.  The bowl is signed, with the C2019 mark which means it was made in c 1963.  It is in very good vintage condition, free from cracks chips and nibbles. The silver gilt does look lightly worn in places but no more than you would expect from vintage china.

Planted with an inner pot of white winter pansies which will flower into the spring. We include the provenance along with detailed growing instructions.  The pansies can be re-planted to flower again next season, and the bowl can be re-used as a planter or for the table - the perfect sustainable way to to have scented flowers in your home over winter and nothing single-use about any element!
