Small pearlware slop bowl in the ‘London’ Regency shape most possibly made by Hilditch & Son. It is a polychrome chinoiserie pattern featuring a pretty wicker basket with flowers . Hilditch & Sons very rarely used a backstamp but this pattern, colours and shape is reminiscent of their work at the time. The factory only lasted 1822 to 1830 and so this bowl would have made during this time.  Pearlware is a type of British earthenware developed around 1775–1779 and designed to mimic expensive Chinese porcelain by using a lead glaze with cobalt additives. Produced heavily in Staffordshire and other regions from the late 18th up to 1830’s it was covered with a glaze containing a small quantity of cobalt which gives it its identifiable bluish cast to the glaze. 
 
During the late Regency period, English pottery design was heavily dominated by the Chinoiserie movement. European potters didn't strive for historical accuracy; instead, they crafted whimsical, fairytale-like scenes of an idealized Orient. "Boy with a Fan" was one of Hilditch’s most successful entries into this market, providing affordable middle-class table sets that rivaled expensive hand-painted Chinese export porcelain.
 
Potted-up with one plant of miniature 4-spiked white 'Opti-Flor' phaleonopsis which are the gold standard of Dutch orchids. Planted in an inner bowl with orchid bark and our propreitary mix. The orchids will flower for months and can potted on into a larger bowl at the right time.
