A very pretty porcelain Chinoiserie slop bowl, attributed to Hilditch & Sons (circa 1825) in the as "Boy with a Fan" pattern. Its beautifully decorated in the classic "clobbered" style, combining grey or blue underglaze transfer-printed outlines with vibrant, hand-painted overglaze pink, blue, green, and orange enamels. The scene depicts stylized Asian figures, scrolling floral landscapes, and rolling hills. It features a characteristic London shape with angular facets along the lower half of the body and a pronounced, footed base.
 
During the late Regency period, English pottery design was heavily dominated by the "Chinoiserie" movement. European potters didn't strive for historical accuracy; instead, they crafted whimsical, fairytale-like scenes of an idealized Orient. "Boy with a Fan" was one of Hilditch’s most successful entries into this luxury-looking market, providing affordable middle-class table sets that rivaled expensive hand-painted Chinese export porcelain.
 
Because the specific corporate configuration of Hilditch & Sons at Lane End only lasted from 1822 to 1830, this pattern was only actively pressed and painted for a few short years. The factory rarely used a corporate backstamp stamp on these bowls, look at the very center of the underside base.
