An unmarked large ironstone pedestal bowl with a typical late Victorian transferware pattern featuring an asymmetrical Japanese-influenced compositions of naturalistic flora. Victorian transfer ceramics, or transferware, emerged from 18th-century printing innovations and became mass-produced in Staffordshire by the 19th century. The technique used a copperplate engraving to transfer ink designs via tissue paper onto ceramic before glazing. This revolutionised tableware, making intricate art affordable across global household.
 
The bowl has been well-loved and is decidedly shabby-chic which is both its charm and reflected in its price! It looks so pretty planted up generously with little winter pansies which will flower for months.
