An important early Charles James patent ironstone master fruit bowl in the ‘Flying Bird’ pattern c 1835. Has been well-loved and now deliciously 'shabby chic' with some crazing, rubbing to gilt, small chips to foot pedestal and several old hairline cracks.   Planted with frilly pale pink cerise Cyclamen ‘hederifolium’  which will flower for months.
 
This is a rare large format Georgian/Early Victorian fruit or punch bowl with transfer pattern extensively hand-decorated overglaze in a vibrant Imari-palette enamel-fired oxides. The well contains the detailed highly-detailed chinoiserie Flying Bird or long-tailed pheasant, tree paeonies and Oriental-styled foliage. The inner and outer rims are finished with intricate geometric diaper-pattern bands and highlighted with gold gilding.
 
Underside features the authentic underglazed Mason makers mark from the period 1825-1848 and has the iron red enamel senior decorator tally marks of ‘1’ and ‘3’.
