A silver-plated urn sold as a high-end household piece through the premium retailer Dimmer & Sons of Church Street, Liverpool.  It perfectly captures the moment British silversmiths transitioned into industrialised modernism and stands as a piece of history from Liverpool's luxury high street during the interwar years. 
 
The urn is in good condition and has substantial markings and engraved marks on the underside which indicate that the urn was made during the late 1920's and 1930's. 
The 745-16 S/P/SZ Hand-Engraving: The prefix 745-16 is an late-Interwar inventory code. In the late 1920s and 1930s, luxury retailers saw a massive boom in mass-manufactured electroplated goods. Shops had to manually scratch precise, complex stock codes onto the bases of items to differentiate a massive influx of modern, machine-made designs.
The "8444 4" Stamp: Indicative of mechanised British production lines during the 1930s, when factories standardised their mould sizes to scale up production of geometric Art Deco homeware.
